51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., and Taléa R. Drummer-Ferrell, Ph.D., recently entered the annals of university history. On May 1, 2020, Hylton became the first Black person in the university’s history to hold the title of vice president for student affairs. And on July 1, 2020, Drummer-Ferrell was appointed dean of students, making her the first Black woman to be named to the position.

Lamar R. Hylton Named 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Vice President for Student Affairs, Amoaba Gooden Appointed Interim Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
51³Ô¹ÏÍø President Todd Diacon announced Thursday that Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as vice president for student affairs, effective May 1, 2020. In addition, Diacon has appointed Amoaba Gooden, Ph.D., as the interim vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion, effective June 1, 2020.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø held its annual Veterans Day Commemoration on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Kent Student Center Kiva. This year’s guest speaker was Lt. Col. Colleen VanNatta. A graduate of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Air Force ROTC detachment, VanNatta served as a media escort for joint information bureaus in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, during Operation Desert Storm.
