'A Supportive Community Makes It a Lot Easier'

Students coming to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and, for some of them, living away from home for the first time can struggle with the transition. The transition can even be more difficult for LGBTQ+ students, particularly for those who have recently "come out." Ken Ditlevson, director of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's LGBTQ+ Center, talks about the many resources available at Kent to support them.

Honors College and Education Abroad Gave 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Grad Tools For Success

Honors College ranked high when graduate Josh Budd was deciding whether to attend 51³Ô¹ÏÍø because it offered him a challenging experience through its thesis programs and its education-abroad program. Studying abroad helped him develop more empathy and connection with people of backgrounds different from his own.

A Nonstop Beat

Sonyea Moore, a sophomore Honors student from Twinsburg, Ohio, is currently pursuing two majors and three minors in the College of Arts and Sciences and is thriving while doing so. Holding a 3.9 G.P.A., Sonyea is following her interests in the humanities through majors in anthropology and Africana studies, along with her minors in English, creative writing, and history. While the workload of such an education is demanding, Sonyea explains it's worth it to study her passions.

Honors College 2023 Distinguished Faculty Award Winner Announced

The 37th Annual Senior Honors Luncheon was held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 in the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Ballroom to recognize seniors graduating in the spring, summer and fall of 2023. This ceremony also provides an opportunity for the Honors College to recognize faculty who have served the college with their time and efforts to allow for exceptional opportunities and experiences for Honors students.

A RECAP: The 37th Annual Senior Honors Luncheon

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Honors College recognized graduating seniors at its annual Senior Honors Luncheon. This event congratulated Honors College members for their upcoming graduations in the spring, summer, and fall of 2023. Seniors were able to unwind as they met with staff and alumni to applaud their accomplishments. Attendees of the luncheon also heard from Denise Harrison, recipient of the 2023 Distinguished Honors Faculty Award and Gary F. Bengier, recipient of the 2023 Distinguished Honors Alumni Award.
