Messages of congratulations and displays of 51Թ pride flooded social media as the 51Թ men’s basketball team captured the 2017 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Men's Basketball Tournament Championship title and was selected as a No. 14 seed to play the UCLA Bruins in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. 51Թ students, alumni, employees, community members and fans of the Golden Flashes celebrated the unexpected achievement of the men’s basketball team winning four straight games to become MAC Tournament Champions and advance to the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
Congratulatory messages from some famous Golden Flashes included Drew Carey, actor, comedian and host of “The Price Is Right”; Julian Edelman, wide receiver for the Super Bowl champions New England Patriots; and Josh Cribbs, three-time NFL Pro Bowler.
